The Cast Is Off

What an exciting day for Connor. We went in for his 5 week check up and the doctor said "lets take it off!" Yippee! Connor, once again, was an awesome patient. He always does exactly what the doctor and assistant tell him to do with no complaints, crying or whining. I am very fortunate that he is such an easy kid. The x-rays looked great with nice new bone growth around the fracture. Now that the cast is off, Connor still has to take it easy for the next 3 weeks. No monkey bars or swings but thankfully he can get wet in the sprinklers or go to the pool. That is such a blessing, especially with a forecast of 95-100 degree temps for the next five days.
The orthopedic assistant cutting off the cast
Cut straight through my "I love Mom" Tattoo
Cutting the inside of the cast
The assistant used spreaders to split the cast open
Now she cuts the soft sock under the plaster
Ta-dah, a nice floppy, flaky arm
Playing with the cast.
To my surprise, it was actually pretty clean
and didn't smell that bad at all!
Feeling the wrinkled, flaky skin.
