Today we spent the morning at Fort Stevens. The fort was constructed by the U.S. Army near the end of the Civil war. The fort was built to protect the North against an English invasion from Canada. It is interesting that Fort Stevens never fired its guns in anger. All the guns were removed in the mid 1940's and now Oregon State Parks are currently restoring and interpreting Fort Stevens. We enjoyed our morning learning about a piece of our history.
