Kindergarten Round-up

Can you believe Connor is old enough to start Kindergarten this fall?  I can't!  Today was his Kindergarten Round-up at Springwater Elementary.  We are so happy he won the lottery and is able to attend this fabulous school.  His new teacher will be Ms. Rae.  She along with her puppets are excited for this fall and getting to know all the new kindergarten students.  We spent the morning meeting all the new parents, the kids and of course Ms. Rae.  Ms. Rae had some projects for the kids to work on while the parents took care of business.  Their first project was to make deer ears!  When you wear your deer ears you become a really good listener and are really quiet...just like a deer in the woods!  Why haven't I thought of making deer ears for our house?  The kids also got to take a tour of the school, explore the classroom and all the new toys, and make kissing hands.  I know what your thinking, what is a kissing hand...don't worry I wondered what it was too.  A kissing hand is a drawing of the parents hand and then the kids decorate them with pictures and stickers.  Then the parents can write things on the hand and this is to remind the kids that their parents love them even though they are not there during the school day.  The kissing hands are placed by their cubbies so they are reminded of their parents every day.  While the kids took a tour of the school, us parents met the principal, the secretary, several staff members, board members, and current parents of the charter school.  It was a fun morning and Connor is really excited to be a kindergartner this fall!
